International Acting Community: Our Community — LS&CO Studios
We are an international studio of actors and students exploring the principal theories of acting as well as the continued development of the acting techniques of Michèle Lonsdale Smith.
The community is composed of multi-faceted and multi-hyphenate artists - Actors, Writers, Directors, Cinematographers, Musicians, Painters, Designers - the list goes on. We find that the personal life work done in the studio extends well beyond the art and business of acting. Most see and feel it across their other disciplines. Our commitment to theatre education is evident in our focus on teaching the intricacies of theatre, from performance to production, ensuring that all members, including students and instructors, are actively involved in both learning and sharing their expertise.
We’re always seeking other artists. We’re excited and invigorated by new artists coming our way, bringing their truths, realities, critical thoughts, understandings, and experiences to the exploration. The studio has grown over the years, and the community of artists is international. There are students studying via Zoom and in person across the world in Europe, Canada, and the United States. Students are by no means required to study consistently for any period of time, but, the studio is geared towards a Pre-Master and Master Class of actors who choose to study on an ongoing basis whilst pursuing their careers, and as a life practice at a very serious explorative level.
The studio offers ongoing study of acting based on Michèle Lonsdale-Smith’s process of acting. On a student to student basis, a decision is made on whether or not new students are ready to study immediately with Michèle or with another instructor to start. The core focus at all levels is on understanding oneself, truthfully and applying that to the art of acting. The studio also offers on set and career coaching with various facilitators.
The community is extremely supportive, as artists are. Actors often help each other with lines, self tapes, career advice, headshots, classes in other artistic disciplines. The studio doesn’t monitor or sanction any of the community activity, but we do ask that it all be done with the same care, empathy, safety, work ethic, and integrity that we approach class study with. After all, we do call it a Humanitarian Art. Our humanitarian efforts extend to supporting families through creative projects, using skills such as painting, that not only engage our members but also raise awareness for important causes, embodying our belief in the power of art to effect change.
